You are the RN in a general practice clinic. Alex Rivera, aged 29, has asked to speak privately after a recent relationship breakdown. Assess immediate safety and arrange a supported clinical response. Complete the supplied practice record. You and the patient are in the room; the GP and a colleague can be called. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.
What this station tests
- Ask separately about Alex’s thoughts, plan, intent, access, prior attempts and ingestion.
- Stay with them and bring the GP to the room for immediate assessment.
- Use local suicide-safety procedures and urgent help if they wish to leave in immediate danger.
- A trusted friend or helpline supports the plan but does not replace clinician handover.
- After clinician handover, Lifeline 13 11 14 and the Suicide Call Back Service can offer additional support.
