You are the RN in an aged care facility. Lucia Bianchi, aged 87, has declined her due oral medicine because she fears choking. A care worker suggests signing it as given to avoid an omission report. Assess the concern, respond safely and write an accurate progress and medicine record. Complete the supplied practice record. A second RN is available. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.
What this station tests
- Lucia’s due medicine is amlodipine 5 mg, held for refusal and swallowing concern.
- Do not force, crush or covertly administer without assessment and authority.
- Use the refused/not-given record and omission process, never a false signature.
- Arrange GP, pharmacist and speech-pathology follow-up with a named owner.
