Drowsiness after procedural analgesia
RN OSCE practice station
Vital signs · 2 min to read · 8 min to perform
A written station. Free to try, no sign-up.
The task
Leah Brooks has returned from a painful bedside procedure and is unusually sleepy. Assess respiratory observations, act on your findings and record an immediate escalation plan. The patient is a manikin; address the patient and the examiner voices their answers and supplies findings. Dr Taylor Singh is reachable by phone. RN Alex Morgan is available.
What this station tests
- Assess respiratory rate and depth as well as saturation: supplemental oxygen can conceal hypoventilation.
- Count respiratory rate and assess depth and sedation after opioid exposure.
- Airway support and emergency response take priority over completing an observation chart.
