PLAB 2 pass rate: GMC figures by year

PLAB 2 pass rate by year

These are the GMC's published PLAB 2 figures as seen in a copy of its pass rates page dated February 2025. The GMC page lists PLAB 1 in a separate table, so do not mix them up.

We have not seen GMC counts for 2025, so we do not state a 2025 figure. In 2024 about 6,692 sittings did not pass, so many candidates sit again.

How the pass mark works

The GMC sets a cut score for each station using the examiner's overall rating: unsatisfactory, borderline, satisfactory or good. The overall pass mark is the sum of the station cut scores plus one standard error of measurement. You must reach that total and also pass a minimum number of stations.

Until November 2024 the minimum was fixed at 10 stations. Now the GMC calculates the number for each exam and does not disclose it. Details are on PLAB 2 mark scheme.

What the rate means for you

The rate is a group average, not a prediction for one person. Four attempts are allowed. See PLAB 2 fees for the cost of each sitting and PLAB 2 preparation for ways to prepare.
