George Bennett has a painful swollen leg. The GP has recommended hospital assessment, but he does not want to go. Explore his reasons and understanding, discuss the risks and obtain a clinician-supported plan. Do not coerce transfer. The patient answers personal questions; the examiner supplies requested examination findings. Dr Taylor Singh is reachable by phone. His daughter Helen can be phoned with his permission.
What this station tests
- A refusal alone does not establish incapacity.
- Explore barriers that may make recommended care acceptable to the person.
- Record the patient’s reasoning, discussion and actual decision with a clear safety plan.
