You are the RN in an aged care facility. Betty James, aged 90, has a prescribed dressing change to a small heel pressure wound. Her niece urges you to continue even if Betty objects. Assess the wound and consent, demonstrate a safe aseptic approach and arrange follow-up. Complete the supplied practice record. Niece Susan is present. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.
What this station tests
- Betty’s consistent understanding and choice take priority over Susan’s request to continue.
- A superficial pink open heel wound is consistent with stage 2 pressure injury.
- Pause painful movement, offload the heel and arrange pain and wound review.
- Paracetamol given three hours ago requires checking the full order before another dose.
