How the 9 of 14 rule works

The exam has 16 assessed stations. Two are pilot stations, and the result is decided on the other 14. A pilot station can be swapped in if a regular station has a problem.

You pass the exam if you pass at least 9 of the 14 stations. Each station is judged on its own. There is no total mark to reach.

When the rule changed

The AMC announced the change on 25 April 2024. It took effect from 21 March 2024 and was not applied to earlier results. Some older pages still say 10 of 14, and some still say 20 stations. Trust the AMC pages we link below.

How a station is passed

AMC specification V8.3 says the examiner's overall rating alone decides the station result. A rating of 3 or below is a fail, and 4 or above is a pass.

The current pass rate is not stated in the AMC documents we could read, so we do not publish one. Older figures exist in search summaries, but we have not verified them against the AMC's own reports.
