Beth Collins is on the postnatal ward one day after vaginal birth and requests help with pain. Assess her pain and function, discuss suitable nursing care and arrange review. The midwifery team and Dr Lee are available.
What this station tests
- Increasing one-sided postnatal pain needs assessment of its cause.
- Limited visible bleeding does not exclude concealed swelling or haematoma.
- Stay within RN competence and obtain consent for intimate assessment.
- Increasing perineal pain with swelling or retention needs early review even when vital signs remain normal.
