Calling for a child with increasing oxygen needs
RN OSCE practice station
Handover and escalation · 2 min to read · 8 min to perform
A written station. Free to try, no sign-up.
The task
Samir Khan is in a paediatric ward with a respiratory illness. You are asked to telephone the reviewing doctor using the supplied observations. Confirm immediate safety, provide ISBAR, obtain and read back a plan, then complete the handover record. The patient is a manikin; address the patient and the examiner voices their answers and supplies findings. Dr Taylor Singh is reachable by phone. RN Alex Morgan is available. Farah Khan is present.
What this station tests
- Escalate the child’s current distress before giving a long background history.
- State whether a saturation was measured on room air or after oxygen started.
- A useful telephone handover ends with a confirmed response and interim care plan.
