You are a general practitioner. Ruby Tran, aged 15, has made an appointment on her own. The receptionist noted that she wants to talk about "the pill". Her parents do not know she is here. Take a focused history, discuss contraception and confidentiality, and agree a plan with her. There is no need to examine her. The examiner will not take part in the conversation.
What this station tests
- Explain confidentiality and its limits at the start; adolescents will not share a sexual history without it.
- Capacity to consent depends on understanding, not age alone; document your assessment.
- Ask about migraine with aura before offering any combined hormonal contraception.
- Offer emergency contraception when unprotected sex has occurred recently, and discuss ongoing contraception.
- Check for coercion or harm. Age of consent and mandatory reporting rules differ between states, so check local requirements.
